Under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Yasser Al-Aboudi, and under the supervision of the President of Tikrit University, Professor Dr. Waad Mahmoud Raouf, and with the follow-up of the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Abdul-Khaliq Alwan Muhaimid, the activities of the Fourth International and Sixth Scientific Conference of the College of Science commenced this morning, Tuesday, November 18, 2025, in Al-Khwarizmi Hall. The conference, held under the theme:
(Purposeful Scientific Research: A Cornerstone of Sustainable Development), will run from November 18-19, 2025, with wide participation from Iraqi and Arab researchers.
The conference was attended by the Head of the Salah al-Din Provincial Council, Adel Al-Sumaidaie, members of the Tikrit University Council, and representatives from the North Refineries Company.
The conference proceedings began with a recitation from the Holy Quran and the reading of Surah Al-Fatihah in remembrance of the martyrs of Iraq, followed by the playing of the Iraqi national anthem and the Tikrit University anthem.
This was followed by a speech from the President of Tikrit University, Professor Dr. Waad Mahmoud Raouf, who said:
“It is my pleasure to welcome you to Tikrit University, a university that, since its founding, has believed that science is a mission, a responsibility, and a means of building. The university has faced significant challenges, but it has proven its ability to transform knowledge into development and ideas into achievements. Over the past years, the university has witnessed a qualitative leap in scientific research, knowledge exchange, and international engagement, becoming an active platform for scientists and researchers from within Iraq and abroad. The university has also achieved a distinguished presence in global rankings such as THE, QS Arab, and Scimago, and its research publications in Scopus and Web of Science have increased, thus strengthening its position among international universities.”
This was followed by a speech from the Dean of the College of Science, Professor Dr. Abdul-Khaliq Alwan Muhaimid, who emphasized that scientific research has become a pivotal tool for achieving comprehensive development, and that nations that invest in knowledge and innovation are best equipped to face the challenges of our time and shape the future.
He explained that the conference represents a well-established scientific platform for showcasing research findings and exchanging expertise with a select group of scientists and researchers from within and outside Iraq. It also provides an opportunity to learn about the latest scientific developments and facilitate technology transfer.
The conference covered several key themes, most notably: life sciences, chemistry, physics, earth sciences, nanotechnology, biotechnology, renewable energy, climate change, and drugs and psychoactive substances.
The conference received over 200 scientific papers, of which 140 were accepted for presentation in the scientific sessions. A significant number of these will be published in accredited international and local journals indexed in Scopus, while the remainder will be published in the conference proceedings.
The opening ceremony included the screening of a documentary about Tikrit University and another about the College of Science, followed by the opening sessions featuring scientific lectures. The first lecture, titled "The Role of Scientific Research in the Engine of Economic and Social Development and Investment," was presented by Professor Dr. Khaled Hassan Abu Al-Teen from the Hashemite University in Jordan. The second lecture, "Smarter Science: Harnessing Artificial Intelligence for Groundbreaking Research," was presented by Professor Dr. Ahmed Ali Al-Karmalawi from Horus University, Egypt.
The third lecture, "Climate Change Impacts and Food Security," was presented by Professor Dr. Amin Mousavi Khanqah from ITMO University in the Russian Federation.
The fourth and final lecture, "Methods of Preparing and Characterizing Nanomaterials and Their Diverse Applications," was presented by Professor Dr. Bassam Mohammed Abdullah.
The final lecture, "The Role of the North Refineries Company in Formulating and Implementing the National Initiative Policy to Support Energy and Reduce Emissions," was presented by Khalid Aswad Khalaf, Director of Quality and Performance Evaluation at the North Refineries Company.
The conference also included the opening of scientific exhibitions and the honoring of researchers, conference organizers, former deans of the College of Science, and retired faculty members.
Following the opening ceremony, researchers proceeded to the designated halls to continue discussing their research papers. This reflects the College of Science's ongoing commitment to supporting scientific research and enhancing the local and regional standing of Tikrit University, in line with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research's directives to establish the principles of sustainable development.
