Department of Chemistry

About the Department

The Department of Chemistry at the College of Science was established in 1999. It awards the Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry after students successfully complete a comprehensive academic curriculum that qualifies them to keep pace with technological advancements in scientific research and to provide services to both the public and private sectors, such as the Ministry of Oil, the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Industry and Minerals, and others.

The Bachelor’s program provides students with a strong foundation in the core branches of chemistry, including Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and Biochemistry, among others. The program also emphasizes the development of information and communication technology skills. Students enhance their practical expertise through laboratory classes and experimental courses using state-of-the-art equipment. Moreover, all students gain research experience by completing a final-year graduation project.

Graduates of the program are well-prepared to take on positions in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries or to pursue further studies at the postgraduate level. The Bachelor’s degree spans four years, with each year divided into two semesters (a total of eight semesters), upon completion of which students are awarded the Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry.

Mission of the Department

  • Preparing distinguished graduates in the fields of scientific research, teaching, and academic expertise in Chemistry.

  • Strengthening the relationship between Chemistry and society through applied research that serves community needs or by offering chemical consultation services to the community.

Vision of the Department

To make the program offered by the Department one of the leading Chemistry programs in Iraq, with recognized excellence in both research and teaching, thereby enabling numerous multidisciplinary projects and collaborations.

Objectives of the Department
