Department of Life Sciences
The Department of Biology was established in the academic year 1998–1999 as one of the departments of the College of Science at Tikrit University, with five faculty members holding doctoral degrees. In its first year, the department admitted thirty (30) students. The department has since expanded significantly, currently comprising fifty-seven (57) faculty members across various scientific specializations. Student enrollment has also increased, reaching three hundred seventy-seven (377) students in the current academic year.
Since its establishment until 2011, the department comprised three branches:

Microbiology Branch

Zoology Branch

Botany Branch
In 2012, the Zoology and Botany branches were merged into a single General Biology Branch, resulting in the department consisting of two branches: Microbiology and General Biology.
The department introduced the Master’s program in the academic year 2005–2006, covering all specializations of Botany, Zoology, and Microbiology. In 2011–2012, the Doctoral program was launched in six specializations: Physiology, Microbiology, Entomology, Ecology, Parasitology, and Histology. Furthermore, in the academic year 2012–2013, the department introduced a Higher Diploma program in Medical Laboratory Techniques.
